Nizhny Novgorod was founded by Prince Yuri (George) Vsevolodovich in 1221. The City got its name "Nizhny" may be because of its location on the "Lower" lands comparing with Novgorod the Great.

Оne of the greatest landmarks of the city is the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. There are a lot of beautiful ancient churches.

The great Russian mathematicians Nikolai Lobatchevsky and Vladimir Steklov were born in Nizhny Novgorod. The founder of stability theory Alexander Lyapunov studied here in city gymnasium. The outstanding physicist and control theorist Alexander Andronov established an extremely successful scientific school in the field of nonlinear dynamics in Nizhny Novgorod. Before 1990, Nizhny Novgorod was a closed city that was inaccessible to foreign observers. The 1975 Nobel peace prize winner, father of Russian H-bomb physicist Andrey Sakharov was in the exile in 1980-1986 here.

A social program for the participants and accompanying persons will include a sightseeing tour, a music concert, symposium dinner and post-symposium tours.

The following post symposium tours are planned

We look forward to welcoming our IFAC friends in Nizhny Novgorod, for the 9th IFAC Symposium on Advances in Control Education
